I have read way, way too many romance novels. I have seen an inordinate amount of rom coms. Sex and the City is my favorite show. The books and shows, they kept me company through the decades on my lonely island.

My heart has always been romantic.

To say I am a late bloomer in the love department is quite the understatement. When my sweetheart did finally show up, he made all of those painful years worth the wait.

Suddenly, all of those little odd quirks and personality traits that I had fostered my whole life (that were apparently off-putting to most of the general public, not many out there are/were drinking my Kool-Aid) were being recognized.... and celebrated. And this, friends, was a two-way street. My loner soon-to-be husband was immediately fascinating to me as well. Though we have been together for 15 years now, my very favorite thing to do is listen to him talk and marvel at his crazy smart brain.

We both recognize that we are indeed odd ducks. Digging into my teacher past, it reminds me of the Leo Lionni book A Color of His Own. A little chameleon is sad because he has no permanent color. At the end, he finds a friend and discovers that it doesn't matter anymore, because the two change colors together. That is so how I felt; I had often felt so alone and misunderstood. Having a partner to share my big dreams and fan the flames of my personality has made all of the difference in my life. My weird doesn't matter anymore, because we are strange together.

So.... when people ask us why we are moving to Baltimore, we just laugh. There is no easy answer. We like to say it is "On Brand" for us. When we travel, we often look at each other and say, "Oh, let's have this life together."

Walking to dinner.

In another country.

Writing books and music by the sea.

On a farm (kidding about that one).

In a city center apartment.

Near a hiking trail.

Atop a skyscraper.

All of it!

We are a greedy little twosome. We want to see it all, hand in hand, together on this adventure.

Wherever the road may take us.
