“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”
― Anna Quindlen

When I was a child, books were my escape, my comfort, my salvation.
I am able to trace my reading origin story to this teeny tiny library in Dodson, Montana.
For many moons, my grandma was the secretary at the K-12 schoolhouse here. My mom would drop my brother and I off with her during the summer. My grandma loved books and I would read anything she had on hand from an early age. I remember reading those Reader's Digest compilations, yearbooks, the encyclopedias, and Agatha Christie.
Then she took me to this library. I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

I would read everything I could get my hands on. I remember burning through the Nancy Drew series, the Hardy Boys, and the Bobbsey Twins. My grandma would also let us into the empty school, where I would type stories, shoot hoops, and pretend I was a teacher.

Those dreamy summers sparked something in me. Reading made me want to see the world. It made me a life long learner.
Even way back then I knew I wanted to have an extraordinary life. I seriously don't know where I would be without my friends, the books.
