The pop art version of us.
The pop art version of us.

I have been a writer my whole life. I kept diaries when I was a kid (those are equal parts hilarious and sad) and journals through my teens and early twenties (lots of single girl lonely angst). On a fateful day in Helena, Montana, my youngest brother Casey told me I should write a blog. Since then (in 2008!) blogging has been my main outlet.

I loved that blog so much. I still use that logo a few places. I was working at The Trop in St. Pete and paid a high school aged co-worker $20 to create that masterpiece.

Then I met Spencer, and he really inspired and encouraged me to explore different types of writing. He is also ridiculously smart, so he is one heck of an editor. The Doc is also a gifted writer in his own right, so we pump out a lot of content. Sometimes for the public, sometimes for family and friends, and sometimes for each other alone.

This is what happens when nerds unite!!

Poetry

Spencer started writing me a poem once a month when we first started dating. To date, I have 182 unique poems dedicated to me! We bind them in book form every few years. Oh if I could only go back to my single (crying) self and tell her to wait, the most romantic man in the world will some day be your husband.

Grammar Snob

I was lucky to be able to retire from teaching after 20 years. One of my big goals post-career was to write a children's book. After being a lifetime grammar snob, I decided to focus in on little things that irk me. My first book is dedicated to the difference between your and you're, and my second book (after receiving way too many misspelled Christmas cards) features plural nouns with 's'. The first book is available on Amazon, the second one will be available this coming Christmas.

I love these characters. Feel free to share the link with your teacher friends!

My Kind of Doctor

Spencer gets compliments all of the time on his succint and informative notes on patients. We decided he should write a book! He worked on this guide for several years. We then published it between jobs, so as not to interfere with any signed contracts. This is a fantastic tool for the medical student, resident, or doctor (that needs a refresh!) in your life.

His book (available in digital and paperback) is available here.

The best book ever, in my opinion. :)

You're Looking at It

When I first met Spencer, my blog was mainly about books and sandwiches, my two favorite things at the time. Virtual fist bumps if you remember SandBookWich!! I loved that blog. It eventually became more food-focused and I found moderate success in the Tampa Bay area. I ate a lot of free food and made some friends in the blogging community. That all went out the window when we moved to Atlanta for residency. There I focused on a new adventure, DoctorWifeLife.

That blog was books, lifestyle, and travel. No one really read it, but it was a great online diary for that time in our lives. After moving to Arizona, we decided to create a blog together. So many people told us that romance fizzles out in a marriage; that is decidely not the case with us. Our theme for this current blog: being married means every night is date night. Even when we stay home it feels like I am on a date. No one really reads this either, but it really is a fun way to capture some of our adventures.

Mélange

We have other independent ventures as well. Spencer is a talented pianist, from time to time he writes his own compositions. As a cruciverbalist, I am trying to get a Sunday crossword published in the New York Times.
