Visiting this place truly felt like another world. (Feel free to make 12-year-old boy jokes about the name. We certainly did.)

We took a 10-hour train ride from Cusco to get to Lake Titicaca. That was an adventure filled with Pisco Sours, dancing, an Alpaca clothing fashion show, a 3-piece rocking band, and delicous Peruvian food. What a way to go!

Lake Titicaca sits at 13,000 feet on the border between Peru and Bolivia. We stayed super hydrated and drank all of the tea, luckily we had no issues with altitude sickness.

A guided boat tour took us to three unique destinations. (This part of the trip was the only time we saw zero Americans anywhere.)
The first was a fully functioning micro-society. Everyone had a purpose and responsibility. It was gorgeous and loved learning about the culture.

Stop two: A very energetic host cooked us a traditional pachamanca lunch. All food was buried in the earth and covered with hot stones. What a cool experience!

The final stop was a reed island. A reed island! I remember reading about this type of thing in an encyclopedia when I was a girl. It was beyond cool to see such a thing in person.

The island (which has to be rebuilt every 8 months) contained 24 inhabitants. 24!

Presidente Ernesto explained how they live to us. He was so engaging. He informed us that families all sleep together, so if you want a little date...you go to the boat!! He then kept saying 'Romantica Boat' and I couldn't stop laughing.

We got to ride on the boat, I even ate a reed straight out of the water. Spencer and I kept looking at each other in disbelief. What a special experience to share!

What is the most other-worldly place you have traveled to?
