Seven Wonders of the World

I always tell Spencer that the day-to-day stuff is the best part of marriage. Eating dinner together, talking about our respective days, planning trips...that is what has made my dreams come true.
That being said, every once in awhile, a couple gets to experience something extraordinary together. What could be more romantic than seeing one of the Seven Wonders of the World!

Getting to Peru and Machu Picchu is no easy task. We opted to to take the Hiram Bingham Train from Cusco, and that turned out to be one of those really good decisions in life. I love a luxury train ride. Get with it USA! This one included welcome champagne, a private train station, a traditional welcome show, delicious Peruvian food, and two gifts each to take with us. What a way to go!

Luckily we were able to visit on two separate days. On day one we had a small group guided tour and on day two we opted for a private tour. Guides are everywhere, you just need to decide what kind of experience you want to have.

I made friends with many, many strangers as there are lots of slippery rocks and I am not the most sure-footed hiker. I touched an inordinate amount of visitors, luckily all friendly.

Every corner we turned we were shocked at the immense beauty. There were no bad views. I am a big fan of shoulder-season travel. (This doesn't always work, Mount Fuji remained hidden behind clouds during our Japan visit) but this trip we got lucky and missed most of the rain. It was also not crazy sunny either, which is good news for my red little face.

A bonus to this trek: we were so proud of ourselves! It felt like a big accomplishment to climb, climb, climb and see everything we saw. This provides a whole new level of romantic day date.

Now we want to see all of the other Wonders! We will be talking about this trip for years to come...probably over pizza delivery on random Tuesdays.
What is the most exotic place you have been to?
