Take Me Out To The Ballgame

Nikki's favorite sport to watch is either football or hockey. My favorite sport to watch is probably basketball. But our favorite sport to attend in person is definitely baseball.

Throughout our relationship, attending baseball games has never lost its allure. In contrast to other sporting events, they are slower paced and more quiet. The fans are not as rowdy and the atmosphere is generally family-friendly. This all allows for a good visit.

Equally important, the food is junky, outlandish and delicious. Ballparks have the best snacks of all sports. Somewhere between a carnival and a gastropub, we have found some of the tasiest treats around. From the 60/40 burger at Target Field to a dungeness crab grilled cheese sandwich paired with champagne at Oracle Park, from Goetta fries at the Great American Ballpark to Decade Dogs at Wrigley Field, from the churro dog at Chase Field to blue crab nachos at Orioles Park at Camden Yards, it's all delicious and a great reason to take yourself out to the ballgame.

I didn't grow up playing little league baseball. I didn't even watch baseball much as a kid and still don't watch it on TV. But I'm glad my wife started bringing me to the ballparks. She actually worked in Tropicana Field for awhile back in the day, and she is very happy to enjoy it as a fan these days. We have been to spring training in the Cactus League and to an unusual stadium fill-in when Steinbrenner Field hosted the Rays while their stadium was being rebuilt. We have a running checklist of all the ballparks. It is great to take in the history of a team and the surrounding city.

As we continue to move around the country, we continue to root for the home teams - Rays, Braves, Diamondbacks and Orioles. Whether they win or lose, we always have a great time.
